Avi Arad Talks Captain America

Avi Arad recently sat down with the Associated Press and discussed why fans are still waiting for the comic book superhero Captain America to make his appearance on the bigscreen.

Actually, it turns out that Captain America has been absent from just about everything including cereal boxes, Happy Meals or even little-kid pajamas for a very long time.

Captain America Wants a Movie
When asked why it has taken so long for Captain America to get any love Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada thinks that it may all come down to the character's patriotic costume. Are people sick of flag waiving or is it just that Captain America's costume is a bit too preachy?

Well, no matter what people think, Avi Arad thinks now is the perfect time to unleash Captain America onto the public in multiple mediums including an animated DVD (The Ultimate Avengers), a new comic series (Civil War) and a film that is currently getting penned.

Last year, Marvel and Paramount Pictures agreed to team up to distribute a slate of Marvel-produced flicks featuring their characters. Still in development, many questions surrounding Cap's live-action treatment have arisen from flag-waving fans.

Would the film be set in the present day? If so, will Captain America battle Iraqi insurgents? Go in search of Osama Bin Laden? Perhaps.

"Without giving too much away, obviously there'll be a little bit of the origin and then we come into our real world," Arad tells asap. "What makes Captain America such a compelling character is that it allows you to judge history so you see where he came from and you see what he stood for."

"One of the things our movie is going to deal with is what happened in 60 years," says Arad. "Which world was better? Sixty years ago or now? Within, obviously, a kick-ass plot and all the stuff that you've come to expect from a superhero movie."

Since comic books are still one of the top mediums that studios love to adapt we should expect each comic book hero to get their chance in the spotlight sooner or later.

Stay tuned for updates.
